As a parent you love the holidays, especially when your kids believe in the magic of it all. I love making cookies in anticipation for Santa, and my favorite when they were younger was sprinkling special reindeer food (granola and glitter) in the yard so the reindeer could find their way. I have to say though, when it comes to my kids believing in the “big guys”, you know Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy, I’ve always followed their lead. I’m pro-choice. Whenever they would ask me if one of the big guys exist, I would ask, “What do you believe”? Well that was until today anyway.

Today my girls came to me giggling and asked, “Mommy are you Santa”?

ME: If you believe a chubby man in a red suit shimmies down our chimney and eats milk and cookies before delivering you presents then that’s your choice…

Don’t worry I didn’t ruin the magic, my 11 and 8-year-old know exactly who to look at when they don’t get what they want.

But they thought this was hilarious so they didn’t stop there.

“Mommy are you the Easter Bunny”?

ME: If you believe a bunny as tall as your dad hops around delivering eggs and baskets filled with toys then that’s your choice..

“Mommy are you the Tooth Fairy”?

ME: If you believe a tiny fairy flies around sprinkling magic dust exchanging teeth for dollars, then that’s your choice.

This was just a funny moment among many funny moments between my girls and I. Today we had a great laugh on the “big guys”. This conversation was done without my 6yo present because he’s still on the fence. He doesn’t say exactly where he thinks his presents come from.  Although, he is very sure that we don’t buy them and the guy dressed up as Santa in the mall doesn’t buy them either.

So for now there’s still a little magic left….

Til next time,
